The What, How, and Why of Taijiquan
In the Taiji forms, we cultivate the physical aspects of “what to do,” including choreography and coordinated movement, in order to then do the “how” by developing grounding, internal connections, synchronized movement, exertion, and relaxation according to the Taiji principles; all without the distraction of an external force trying to influence us. In the form, we cultivate the substance of our practice, but in partner training, we discover the timing (when) and the purpose (why).
Partner training reveals what we can or cannot (yet), or what we are doing without understanding it, thus raising questions that we must then explore in the form to answer.
Therefore, this workshop focuses on partner training, guided by frequent references to the forms and the Taiji principles.
Partner training reveals what we can or cannot do, or what we are doing without understanding it, and thus raises questions that we must explore in the form to answer them. “I consider myself very fortunate to have gone through the journey in Karate that led me to the place I now find myself, and the ‘Do’ (the philosophy of the way) has never left me. My path continues through practicing and teaching Taiji and
White Crane, and I am very fortunate to have known and trained with Wee Kee Jin’s guidance for so long.”
