In the Taiji forms, we cultivate the physical aspects of “what to do,” including choreography and coordinated movement. We then work on “how” to do it by developing grounding, internal connections, synchronised movement, loading and releasing in accordance with Taiji principles — all without the distraction of an external force attempting to influence us. In the form, we cultivate the substance of our practice; however, in partner training, we discover timing (when) and purpose (why).
Partner training reveals what we are able to do — or not yet able to do — as well as what we may be doing without understanding. In this way, it raises questions that we must then explore within the form in order to answer them.
Therefore, this workshop focuses on partner training, guided by frequent reference to the forms and Taiji principles.
“I consider myself very fortunate to have gone through the journey in Karate that led me to where I now find myself, and the ‘Do’ (the philosophy of the way) has never left me. My path continues through practising and teaching Taiji and White Crane, and I am very fortunate to have known and trained under Wee Kee Jin’s guidance for so long.”
